Rules & Regulations

ELIGIBILITY FOR ATHLETICS

Andrew Jackson Academy operates under the guidelines of the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISAA). To represent AJA in any athletic contest, student-athletes must meet all SCISAA academic requirements, which state that a student must successfully pass at least 4 to 5 one-credit academic subjects (or their equivalent) in the preceding semester.

SPORTS CODE OF CONDUCT

All AJA student-athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators are bound by the sportsmanship guidelines set forth in the SCISAA Blue Book. We expect our community to display exemplary citizenship, respect toward game officials and opponents, and maintain positive representation of the Academy at all athletic events.

ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION FEES

An Athletic Participation Fee of $75 is required for student participation in sports programs. This fee helps offset administrative, travel, and tournament expenses. Please note that Mini Cheer and C-Team sports are excluded from this participation fee.

REQUIRED MEDICAL & LIABILITY FORMS

Before participating in any practice or game, athletes must have a completed, up-to-date SCISAA Physical Form, Parent Consent Form, and Concussion Awareness Form on file. Please see your varsity or junior varsity coaches to obtain the latest versions of these required documents.

ANNUAL MEMORIAL AWARDS

Each year, Andrew Jackson Academy Athletics honors outstanding student-athletes who represent the pinnacle of character, leadership, and athletic excellence. The Ben Fender Award is presented annually to an outstanding senior boy, and the Allison Carter Award is presented to an outstanding senior girl.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Nominees for both awards must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 80, demonstrate exemplary citizenship and moral character, and have participated in at least two varsity sports for a minimum of 2.5 years.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The final award recipients are chosen carefully at the conclusion of the spring sports season by a dedicated selection committee consisting of the Academy's Headmaster and all Varsity head coaches.
